Why it matters

Average position across a whole site is nearly meaningless. Position for a specific query on a specific tier is actionable.

How it is measured

Filter Search Console by query and by page prefix, and read average position for that combination.

Checks that involve ranking

• A monthly citation check against a fixed set of seed queries
• Search Console queries are segmented by page tier, not read in aggregate
• You can distinguish an indexation problem from a ranking problem
• Revenue events fire server-side from the webhook, never from a client success page
